Member Spotlights

Janice Brothers

I am Janice Brothers, a relatively new member to TNA. I was an LPN for several years before returning to complete my BSN from Austin Peay University in 2022. In addition to being an RN, I am a holistic nurse coach in a holistic health practice. I received my Integrative Nurse Coach certification in 2023 and work at a Nurse Coach/Advocate at Graith Care Advocacy assisting clients with whatever they need whether it is guidance on natural medicine or assistance with extending the life of a loved one. I also serve as a substitute school nurse for the Williamson County school district. I serve as the co-chair of chapter 15 of the American Holistic Nurses Association and Director, Tennessee Nurses Association, District 15. I am very excited to be a member of TNA and look forward to many volunteer opportunities.

Tia Falls

Hi, my name is Tia Falls, and I am excited to become a new member of TNA. I have been a Registered Nurse (RN) for approximately 15 years. I received my BSN degree from Tennessee Technological University in 2007. From then on, I worked as an RN in several adult specialty areas, including orthopedics, med/surg, psych, the operating room, and urology. While in urology, I felt the tug of leadership while working as a lead urology oncology nurse. I returned to school and obtained my MSN degree in nursing leadership and management from King University in 2018. In 2021, I became the assistant nurse manager of the adult urology clinic. I worked in that capacity until I became the clinic nurse manager of the adult urology clinic in February 2023, where I am still working. I am currently completing my DNP in systems leadership, and I'm excited to graduate in the Fall of 2024!

I look forward to using the knowledge gained throughout my nursing career to continue advocating and caring for patients within my current practice area and broadening that into the community I live in daily as a TNA member.

Sandra Boner

Hello, my name is Sandra L. Bonner and I am elated to be a new member of TNA. I am a dynamic, highly accomplished registered nurse of 40 years. I received my BSN degree in 1984 from the University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences School of Nursing Memphis. My nursing experience includes being a certified medical case manager, certified legal nurse consultant, workers compensation nurse, federal occupational employee health nurse, director of nursing/branch manager, emergency department nurse, pediatric nurse, orthopedic/neurosurgical nurse, home health care nurse, fundamentals instructor, and clinical instructor.

In 2002, I obtained a certification in legal nurse consulting. In 2005 I attended the University of Phoenix and obtained an MSN with a concentration in nursing education. In 2006, I became a certified case manager. In 2016, I pursued a post-MSN degree with a concentration in adult gerontology and primary care at Maryville University.  I presently tutor and mentor nursing students and provide NCLEX reviews for nursing graduates and I am proud to have a 99 % pass rate. I am currently employed as a federal employee occupational health nurse at the Veterans Medical Center. I enjoy taking care of the employees who take care of our veterans. Now is a very exciting time for me, because I finally have time to be an active member of TNA and look forward to this opportunity.

E. Cherese Brooks, MSN, RN, NPD-BC

Nursing has been, and continues to be, an excellent career choice for me.  I began my nursing adventure when I graduated from Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) in 1981 with my Associates Degree in Nursing.  My job while in nursing school was an EMT with the ambulance service and so I found myself pinning on Friday evening and starting work at Baptist Emergency Department on the following Monday. One of the great benefits of nursing is that you can move within the profession and gain skills at various levels and with different patient populations.  My career has definitely moved thru numerous of these changes over the past 43 years.  I found myself in a leadership role that required a Bachelor of Nursing Degree and I pursued this at MTSU and graduated in 2009.  I have worked the majority of my bedside career in Emergency Departments, Intensive Care Units, and particularly with the Burn patient population.  I did find myself needing a job that provided a confirmed and predictable schedule after our third child was born and found myself working at the Metro Public Health Department (MPHD).  This job blossomed into so much more than just a job and certainly was a surprise to me.  The Nursing Director at MPHD believed that I would be an excellent candidate to establish a new role at MPHD as the Competency Coordinator.  Her vision, recognition, and belief in my abilities began my evolution to finding my true joy in nursing as teaching.  It was during my tenure at MPHD that I became a member of Tennessee Nurses Association (TNA).  After 5 years at MPHD, I found myself in the Burn Center once again as the interim Educator and this led to obtaining my Masters in Nursing Education at Tennessee State University.  I have been teaching in the field of nursing in some capacity since 2002. I am currently a Clinical Education Specialist at TriStar Summit Medical Center.  I have found that being a member of TNA has provided a network of nursing professionals, educational opportunities, continuing education opportunities, and wonderful conferences.  TNA provides continuous monitoring of legislative activity that will impact the nursing profession and lobbyists to connect with politicians to confirm that there is true understanding of what the legislation represents. I believe that this is a must have in our changing times in the nursing profession.
